COMMUNITY
& INTERNATIONAL SERVICE PROJECTS Jackson
Day - Fundraising event in which the Jackson Rotary Club sponsors
several booths to raise money for community projects. Annual
Picnic For The Disabled - Picnic sponsored by the Jackson Rotary Club, in
which the day is filled with food, games and fun for all. Thanksgiving
Day For The Elderly - Food prepared and served at the senior center as well
as delivered to shut-ins. Christmas
Bell Ringing For The Salvation Army Rotarians volunteering to collect funds
for the Salvation Army at Christmas time at the community Senior Center. Christmas
Gift Giving To Needy Families - Program run by the Rotary club to give
Christmas gifts to families that can not afford to buy their own. Road
Cleanups - Periodic cleanup of local streets and park areas by Rotarian
members and volunteers. Jackson
Memorial High School Scholarship Program - The Jackson Rotary Club
awards three $500 scholarships to outstanding Parochial or Public School
Jackson students to assist in furthering their education. This years winners
were: Ryan C Yalden, Cassie M Royle and Stephen D Prokopiak. Congratulations

Somers Memorial Scholarship Program - A scholarship program established by
the Jackson Rotary Club in honor of William Somers, a deceased member of the club
to award annual $500.00 scholarship monies to Interact students. State
Programs For High School Boys & Girls Defibrillator
Program - A raffle program set up by the Jackson Rotary Club to provide all
Jackson schools (9) with life saving defibrillators. Operation
Hand Over Seas - The Jackson Rotary Club is collecting and sending non
perishable items to our soldiers overseas in the Gulf Region. Monies are also
being collected to help pay for shipping theses items. This is an ongoing
project for 2003 & 2004 years Interact -
Rotary-sponsored service club for young people ages 14-18. The program gives
young people an opportunity to participate in fun, meaningful service projects
while developing leadership skills and meeting new friends. Through service
activities, Interactors learn the importance of:
...Developing leadership skills and personal integrity;
...Demonstrating helpfulness and respect for others; and
...Advancing international understanding and goodwill School
Beautification Project - Program established by the Jackson Rotary Club to
enhance the exterior grounds of the schools within the Jackson community. Funds
and volunteers are being solicited to supply landscaping ideas and aid for this
program. Dominica
School/Orphanage - International project established by the Jackson Rotary Club to provide clothing,
books, computers and other items of need to the Dominican Orphanage in the Dominican Republic. Year
to date the club has collected and sent over 200 pounds of clothing. The school
was opened in January 2003 and currently is assisting approximately 300 children
ranging in age from 4 years to 15 years of age. Blue Light
Program - A program established and funded by the Jackson Rotary Club to
provide emergency blue bulb lamps to those in need. These lamps are used to
assist emergency personnel in finding the homes when there is an emergency.
